How do I remove Pro Tools software from my computer?

This Article covers uninstalling the Pro Tools application from both Macintosh and Windows platforms.
(from the Getting Started guide)

Windows 8

  1. Hover the mouse pointer over the top-right of the screen to make the charms appear. 
  2. Click the Search charm (magnifying glass).
  3. Click Settings.
  4. Type Uninstall
  5. Click "Uninstall a program"
  6. Select Avid Pro Tools.
  7. Click Uninstall (If Uninstall is not available, click Change and select Remove from the Installer menu).
  8. Follow the on-screen instructions to remove Pro Tools.

Windows 7

  1. Choose Start > Control Panel.
  2. In category view, under Programs, click “Uninstall a program.”
  3. Select Pro Tools.
  4. Click Uninstall (If Uninstall is not available, click Change and select Remove from the Installer menu)..
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to remove Pro Tools.

Windows Vista

  1. Choose Start > Control Panel.
  2. Under Programs, click “Uninstall a program.”
  3. Select Pro Tools.
  4. Click Uninstall.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to remove Pro Tools.

Windows XP

  1. Choose Start > Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Add or Remove Programs.
  3. From the Currently Installed Programs list, select Digidesign Pro Tools.
  4. Click the Remove button.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to remove Pro Tools.

Macintosh OSX (Pro Tools 10 and earlier)

  1. Make sure you are logged in as an Administrator for the account where Pro Tools is installed.
  2. (For details on Administrator privileges in Mac OS X, refer to your Apple OS X documentation.)
  3. Go to Applications/Digidesign/Pro Tools/Pro Tools Utilities and double-click the “Uninstall Pro Tools” file.
  4. Click Continue to proceed with the uninstall.
  5. Choose the type of uninstall you want to perform:
    • Safe Uninstall Leaves certain plug-ins and system files needed for compatibility with some Avid products.
    • Clean Uninstall Removes all Pro Tools files, including system files, Digidesign plug-ins, and MIDI patch names.  (NOTE: With the Clean Uninstall, only plug-ins installed by Pro Tools will be removed. Third party plug-ins will not be removed.)
  6. Click Uninstall.
  7. Enter your Administrator password and click OK.
  8. Click Finish to close the Installer window.
